Japan's New Cancer Data Shows 92% Prostate Survival Rate

Japan just unveiled breakthrough cancer survival data that shows remarkable progress in fighting the disease across nearly one million patients.

The country's health ministry released its first-ever nationwide cancer survival rates on Wednesday, tracking 990,000 people diagnosed in 2016. This represents the most complete picture of cancer outcomes Japan has ever produced.

Other survival rates included 67.8% for bowel cancer patients, 64% for stomach cancer, and 37.7% for lung cancer. While pancreatic cancer remains the most challenging at 11.8%, having reliable national data helps researchers understand where to focus breakthrough efforts.

The data proves especially valuable for younger patients too. Children under 15 diagnosed with certain lymphocyte tumors showed a 95.7% survival rate. Leukemia and related blood disorders in young patients logged an 82.2% survival rate.
