Josh Kerr Wins $150K and Britain's First Ultimate Title

Josh Kerr just proved that quality beats quantity in the biggest way possible.

The Scottish runner stormed to victory at the inaugural Ultimate Championship in Budapest, becoming Britain's first winner at the new global event and pocketing $150,000 in the process. Kerr swept past American Yared Nuguse on the back straight and never looked back, finishing the 1500m in 3:29.35.

The win caps what might be the best year of Kerr's career. He shattered the 27-year-old mile world record in front of 60,000 fans at the London Diamond League in July, won Commonwealth Games gold in Glasgow, and reclaimed his world indoor 3,000m title earlier in the year.

"I am a major championship guy and I will always be that," Kerr said. "From seven weeks ago in London, I went home, I chopped wood and carried water and I was ready to go again."

Kerr received a special invitation despite not qualifying by right, and he seized the opportunity to deliver one final spectacular performance of the season. The win comes just 12 months after a calf tear ended his world title defense in Tokyo.

Now fully recovered and in career-best form, Kerr has three golden years ahead with two World Championships and an Olympic Games on the horizon.
