K-9 Odin Gets Lifesaving Vest From Nonprofit

Police K-9 Odin just got a potentially lifesaving gift that will protect him as he serves his Salt Lake County community.

The Unified Police Department dog received a custom-fitted bullet and stab protective vest from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to keeping four-legged officers safe. The vest is certified by the National Institute of Justice and made right here in the U.S.

Since launching in 2009, the charity has equipped 6,397 police dogs across all 50 states with protective gear worth $6.9 million. Each vest costs $1,800 to produce but is donated free to qualifying law enforcement agencies.

The program is open to any certified police dog in America that's at least 20 months old and actively working. Dogs whose vests have expired can also apply for replacements.
