K-Pop Star IU Donates $200K on Birthday to 5 Charities

While most celebrities blow out candles and unwrap presents on their birthdays, IU decided to give instead. The beloved Korean singer-actor donated 300 million KRW (roughly $200,000) to five different charities under the name "IUAENA," a blend of her stage name and her fan club's name.

The donation, announced by her agency EDAM Entertainment on May 16, was split strategically across causes supporting Korea's most vulnerable communities. Asan Medical Center received 100 million KRW to help patients struggling with medical bills.

The remaining 200 million KRW was divided equally among four organizations: Walking With Us, Milk Delivery to Check on the Elderly, the Korean Unwed Mothers Families Association, and Walk Together. Each received 50 million KRW to support their specific missions.

The funds will reach people facing real challenges. Patients who can't afford treatment will get help. Elderly citizens living alone will receive wellness checks along with their milk deliveries. Single mothers will find support for their families. Children and teenagers will gain access to educational and cultural opportunities they couldn't otherwise afford. People with disabilities will receive advanced assistive devices.

For IU's fans, the birthday donation came as no surprise. The star, currently earning praise for her role in the drama "Perfect Crown," has turned generosity into a personal tradition spanning her entire career.
