Kacey Musgraves Raises Funds for Immigrant Children's Rights
Grammy-winning country star Kacey Musgraves used her Chicago concert to raise money for children separated from their parents during immigration proceedings. The singer has made supporting the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights a mission throughout her 2025 tour.
Eight-time Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves turned her birthday into a chance to help kids in need. On the opening night of her "Middle of Nowhere" tour at Chicago's United Center, she asked fans to donate to the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights instead of sending presents.
"It's a wonderful organization, and they help give aid — legal aid — and money to children whose parents have been deported unfairly," Musgraves told the crowd. "It's not a political thing. It's just, these kids need help."
The Chicago-based nonprofit pairs volunteers with attorneys and social workers to support unaccompanied immigrant children in government custody. They focus on reuniting families and ensuring children receive fair legal proceedings.
In 2024, the Young Center served nearly 2,000 children from 53 countries. Their work has become more urgent this year as children's average detention time jumped from 30 to 198 days.

This isn't Musgraves' first fundraiser for the cause. In April, she partnered with resale platform Depop to sell 20 pieces from her personal wardrobe, including outfits from music videos and tours. All proceeds went to the Young Center.
The singer also invited three brothers, ages 18, 14, and 12, to open three Texas shows in May after their family was released from immigration custody. The young mariachi performers had fled violence in Mexico and were seeking asylum.
The Ripple Effect
Musgraves' platform is making a real difference. Her clothing sale and concert appeals have brought national attention to children navigating the immigration system alone. The Young Center reported that requests for help from detained parents quadrupled in 2025, making fundraising efforts more critical than ever.
By framing her advocacy around children's welfare rather than politics, Musgraves has inspired fans across the country to support vulnerable kids. Her North American arena tour continues through October, giving her dozens more opportunities to raise awareness and funds.
Sometimes the most powerful thing a star can do is shine their light on those who need it most.
