Kano Police Recover 8 Stolen Tricycles, Arrest 3 Thieves

Police in Nigeria's Kano State have dismantled a tricycle theft ring and returned eight stolen vehicles to their rightful owners.

The arrests started on March 26 when officers on patrol near Airport Road stopped Abubakar Sidi riding a tricycle. When he couldn't provide a satisfactory explanation for how he got the vehicle, officers grew suspicious and took him in for questioning.

Their instincts proved right. Investigators discovered that Sidi and his accomplices had been tricking tricycle owners, then stealing their vehicles. The suspects would approach drivers, gain their trust, and rob them of their tricycles.

Further investigation led police to two more suspects, Abba Babura and Babangida Haruna. The team also tracked down seven additional stolen tricycles that the group had already sold in neighboring Jigawa State.

All eight vehicles have been recovered and are waiting to be reunited with their owners.

For tricycle drivers across Kano, these vehicles represent their entire livelihood. Losing one means losing the ability to feed their families and pay their bills. By cracking this case, police have restored not just property, but income and hope to eight families.

The department is now reaching out to other potential victims. Police spokesperson Abdullahi Kiyawa shared photos of the recovered tricycles and asked anyone who lost a vehicle in a similar way to come forward.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori praised the patrol team for their sharp instincts and thorough investigation. His message to the community was clear: vigilance works, and the department stands ready to protect honest workers.

Officers are reminding tricycle drivers to stay alert with passengers, avoid accepting drinks or gifts from strangers, and report suspicious activity immediately. Sometimes a moment of caution can prevent a devastating loss.

Eight families can now get back to work, thanks to officers who trusted their gut and followed through.
