Kansas City Cop Finds Cancer Patient's Stolen E-Bike

When someone stole the electric bike that cancer survivor Olivia needed to reach her medical appointments, Kansas City Police Officer JP Young made her a promise. He told her he would do everything he could to find it.

That was Mother's Day, May 10. For the next 30 days, Young never stopped looking.

Olivia has Stage 4 breast cancer and relies on her three-wheeled e-bike to get to oncology appointments. Without it, she couldn't access the care keeping her alive.

Officer Young and his partner finally spotted a man riding an e-bike that looked spray-painted. When Young noticed glimpses of old paint showing through, he snapped a photo and texted it to Olivia.

She confirmed it was hers. Young had found it.

"Officer Young went way beyond the call of duty to help me get my trike back," Olivia wrote on the Kansas City Police Department's Facebook page. "The best part for me was seeing how big of a smile he had on his face when he was able to return it, just like he had found the Golden Goose."

While friends had purchased Olivia a replacement bike, it wasn't assembled correctly and she couldn't use it. She planned to sell the recovered bike to pay for repairs on the new one so she could be mobile again.

This story gets even better. A local volunteer with Urban Trail Co. saw the Facebook post about the bike being returned and immediately offered to fix Olivia's new bike at no cost.

"Bikes are part of our lives, and myself and some other volunteers would be happy to help her get rolling again," they wrote.

Olivia's response was simple and grateful: "I would absolutely love that! It would be a huge help."

One commenter summed up what many felt: "Your generosity has brought tears to my eyes." Another supporter noted that stories like this rarely get told but represent the best part of policing.

Officer Young just kept his word and changed someone's life in the process.
