Katsina Governor Donates $31K to Help Vulnerable Citizens
Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State, Nigeria, donated ₦50 million ($31,000) to help poor and vulnerable residents through the state's religious charity program. The contribution sparked additional donations from community leaders, bringing millions more to families in need.
A Nigerian governor just put his money where his heart is, donating over $31,000 to directly support struggling families in his state.
Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State handed over ₦50 million to the State Zakkat and Waqf Board on Tuesday. Zakkat is a religious obligation in Islam where wealthy individuals give a portion of their wealth to help those in need.
The funds will go directly to poor families, orphans, and other vulnerable community members across the state. Governor Radda emphasized that this isn't just charity but a duty that strengthens society by ensuring everyone is supported.
"By giving generously, we obey Allah and invest in the well-being of our society," Radda said at the ceremony. He encouraged other wealthy residents to fulfill this important obligation.
During the event, Radda also inspected a Qur'anic boarding school he personally helped build, contributing up to 80 percent of the resources needed. The school combines religious education with academic learning, giving children access to quality education in both areas.

The governor commissioned a new tailoring skills training center designed to empower citizens with practical job skills. These types of programs help people earn income and support their families long term.
The Ripple Effect
The governor's generosity sparked a wave of giving from others in the community. Business leader Ɗahiru Usman Sarki donated ₦25 million, while Senator Abdul'aziz Musa Ƴar'adua contributed ₦10 million.
Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal even asked the Board to assess his livestock farm to determine what he owes in Zakkat. The collective spirit of giving reflects how one person's leadership can inspire an entire community to help.
The Zakkat Board reported collecting 120,000 bags of grains this year, including millet, maize, and beans. That's 50 percent more than last year's 80,000 bags, showing how the program continues growing and reaching more families.
When leaders demonstrate generosity and accountability, communities follow their example and vulnerable families receive the support they desperately need.
