Katsina Trains Youth in Construction Trades

Young people in Katsina State are getting a real shot at economic independence through a new vocational training program that teaches market-ready construction skills.

The Family Homes Fund, working with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda's administration, is training youths in five high-demand trades: masonry, electrical wiring, tiling, POP design, and painting. These aren't just certificates on paper. Every graduate walks away with a complete set of starter tools to begin working right away.

"When our youths are trained, equipped, and supported, they become agents of development," Governor Radda said during a meeting with program officials at Government House in Katsina. The state government has committed to providing full support to expand the initiative across more communities.

Mrs. Monsurat Muhammed, leading the Family Homes Fund delegation, explained that the program focuses on hands-on, practical skills that match what employers actually need. Graduates also get enrolled in a database for future job opportunities in their specialization.

The timing couldn't be better. Nigeria faces significant youth unemployment, and construction trades offer reliable income opportunities. By focusing on practical skills rather than theory, the program addresses a real gap in the job market.

This partnership does more than create individual success stories. When young people gain stable income through skilled trades, entire families benefit. Construction workers build homes, wire schools, and improve infrastructure in their own communities.
