Kent Farrington Wins First World Cup Title in Fort Worth

Kent Farrington stood in the arena where a field bears his family name, about to complete the dream he'd rewound on VHS tapes until they wore out.

The American equestrian clinched his first World Cup title Sunday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, riding his partner of five years, Greya. They finished with just 4 penalties across three days of competition, delivering a flawless final round when the pressure peaked.

"The World Cup Final is special to me, because that's what I grew up watching," Farrington said. "I would watch it so much that I would burn through the tape on cassette, so to be here winning it today is really special."

The world's number two ranked jumping athlete led the competition from start to finish. He won the opening speed round with his horse Toulayna, then topped the second round's jump-off with Greya.

Daniel Deusser from Germany finished second with 7 penalties, followed by American Katie Dinan with 9 penalties. The podium showcased two Americans competing on home soil, with all nine U.S. riders advancing to the final day.

Why This Inspires

Farrington's approach to handling extreme pressure offers a masterclass in staying present. When a rail fell in the second-to-last round, his comfortable lead shrank to just three penalties over Deusser.

"I just focus on my task at hand, be in the present, be one with my horse, think about what I have to do and not worry about the end result in that moment," he explained. The crowd fell silent as he and Greya approached the final round, then erupted when they cleared the last obstacle.

The 32-year-old Dinan also impressed with double-clear rounds on both days. "I'm in awe of my horse," she said after her bronze medal finish.

For Farrington, arriving in Fort Worth and seeing Farrington Field felt like destiny calling him home to fulfill that childhood dream worn into VHS tape.
