Kenya Bank Brings Clean Water to Schools in Meru County

Thousands of students in Meru County, Kenya, will soon have something many of us take for granted: clean water at school.

Sidian Bank launched a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene campaign on January 26, donating massive 10,000-liter water tanks to schools throughout the region. The program targets educational centers as community hubs where improved water access can create the widest positive impact.

For families in Meru County, fetching water has been a daily struggle. Students often arrive at school thirsty, and unreliable water supplies increase the risk of waterborne diseases that keep kids out of class.

Simon Mwangi, Sidian Bank's Head of Government and Institutional Banking, emphasized that clean water enables everything else to flourish. "Access to clean water is not just a basic need; it is a foundation for health, dignity and economic stability," he said at the launch.

The bank is working directly with local leaders and community structures to ensure the tanks continue serving families long after installation. This partnership approach helps guarantee the program responds to genuine community needs rather than imposing external solutions.

Local MP Nebart Bernard Muriuki highlighted how one water tank can transform daily life for entire neighborhoods.
