😊 Feel Good

Kia just started building its most affordable electric vehicle yet, priced thousands below expectations at just over $30,000. The compact EV2 launches next month in Europe with lease options as low as $275 per month.

Affordable electric cars just became more of a reality for European drivers looking to make the switch from gas.

Kia announced this week that its EV2 compact SUV is now in production at the company's Slovakia plant, with deliveries starting next month. The big surprise? The starting price came in at $30,500, well below the expected $35,000 price tag.

"The start of production for the EV2 continues to verify our technical capabilities and flexibility in Europe," said Soohang Chang, President and CEO at Kia Europe. The Slovakia facility now builds two fully electric models, with the EV2 joining the previously launched EV4.

Buyers can choose between two battery sizes. The smaller 42.2 kWh pack delivers 197 miles of range, while the larger 61 kWh battery extends that to 281 miles. Both versions can charge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes using a fast charger.

Despite its compact size at just over 13 feet long, the EV2 offers clever interior design with a flat floor that creates surprising rear legroom and 403 liters of cargo space. It's even smaller than the Volkswagen ID.3 but uses every inch efficiently.

Inside, drivers get dual 12.3-inch screens for the dashboard and infotainment, plus a 5-inch climate control display. The base model comes with a "Lite" version of Kia's system that skips built-in navigation but works seamlessly with smartphone apps like Google Maps.

The entry level EV2 Light model starts rolling out now, powered by a 146 horsepower electric motor. The extended range battery option and sportier GT-Line trim will join production in June 2026, with the GT-Line starting at $42,600.

The Ripple Effect

Kia now offers electric vehicles across nearly every price point and size category in Europe. This complete lineup gives more families realistic options to switch to electric, regardless of their budget or lifestyle needs. After record sales in 2025, the affordable EV2 positions Kia to compete directly with Chinese automakers entering the European market while making electric driving accessible to everyday buyers who've been priced out until now.

Lower prices and more choices are bringing the electric vehicle future closer for millions of European families.
