Kia EV2 compact electric car with modern triple-screen interior dashboard display

Kia's New EV2 Starts at $30,500 in Europe

😊 Feel Good

Kia just opened orders for its smallest electric car yet, priced thousands below expectations at around $30,500. The compact EV2 packs surprising space and 281-mile range, making electric vehicles more accessible across Europe.

Affordable electric cars just got more affordable. Kia's brand-new EV2 hit the European market this week with a starting price of €26,600 (about $30,500), coming in well below the expected €30,000 price tag.

The EV2 marks Kia's entry into the budget-friendly electric vehicle market. At just over 13 feet long, it's even smaller than the Volkswagen ID.3, but clever design makes the interior feel surprisingly roomy.

"With the Kia EV2, we are adding a very important and highly attractive entry-level model to our extensive electric vehicle range," said Thomas Djuren, managing director of Kia Germany. Orders are now open across Germany, with lease options starting at just €239 (about $275) per month.

Buyers can choose between two battery sizes. The smaller 42.2 kWh battery delivers up to 197 miles of range, while the larger 61 kWh option pushes that to an impressive 281 miles. Both options support fast charging that can juice up from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

Despite its compact exterior, the EV2 offers segment-leading rear legroom of nearly 38 inches, thanks to a smart flat-floor design and extended wheelbase. Buyers can even opt for a four-seat configuration with individual rear captain's chairs instead of the standard five-seat bench.

The EV2 comes loaded with modern tech too. Higher trims feature a triple-screen setup with dual 12.3-inch displays plus a climate control screen. Even the base model includes smartphone connectivity for navigation through apps like Google Maps.

The Ripple Effect: This pricing strategy could reshape Europe's electric vehicle landscape. By undercutting expectations and offering genuine practicality, Kia is making zero-emission driving accessible to more families who've been priced out of the EV market. The car also supports bidirectional charging, meaning owners can use it as a backup power source or even sell energy back to the grid to offset costs.

The first deliveries start rolling out in April for Air and Earth models. By July, all variants including the sportier GT-Line will be available across Europe, built right in Kia's Slovakia plant.

Making clean transportation affordable is how we accelerate the shift to a sustainable future.
