Knicks Take 2-0 Lead as Josh Hart Scores Career High

When your opponent's game plan is to shut down your star player, someone else has to step up. Josh Hart just showed the basketball world he's more than ready for that challenge.

The New York Knicks rolled past the Cleveland Cavaliers 109-93 on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden, taking a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals. Hart delivered a career-high 26 points after Cleveland double-teamed All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson all night long.

The Cavaliers came out strong, leading 27-24 after the first quarter. But the Knicks found their rhythm in the second quarter and never looked back.

The third quarter belonged to New York. The Knicks went on an 18-0 run that sent the Garden crowd into a frenzy, building their lead to 18 points. Cleveland fought back in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to nine with 8:30 remaining.

While Brunson was the hero of Game 1 with 38 points, he gladly shared the spotlight Thursday night, dishing out a playoff career-high 14 assists to go with his 19 points. Karl-Anthony Towns added another double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

The Knicks pulled their starters with under two minutes left, and 19,000 fans rose to their feet in appreciation. New York shot 52% from the field while holding Cleveland to just 39% shooting. The defense that fueled their comeback in Game 1 stayed locked in for all four quarters.
