Korea Opens 350 MW Solar Factory, Creating Green Jobs

South Korea just got a powerful boost in its clean energy future with the opening of a 350 MW solar panel production facility that's already lined up to supply major projects across the region.

Korean company Shinsung E&G opened the new production line at its Gimje plant in Jeollabuk-do province. The facility uses advanced n-type cell technology to manufacture high-power solar modules right in Korea's southwest.

The timing couldn't be better. Shinsung has already secured contracts to supply an 80 MW ground-mounted solar project, a 74 MW installation, and an impressive 300 MW floating solar array in the nearby Saemangeum development area. That's enough clean electricity to power tens of thousands of homes.

CEO Lee Ji-sun says the facility will establish the region as "a genuine hub for high-power module production." The company built the plant through a partnership with the city that focused on creating local jobs and spurring industrial development in the area.

The factory can scale up if needed. While the new line produces 350 MW, the Gimje plant has total capacity of 600 MW. If demand grows, Shinsung plans to activate the remaining production capacity.

The Ripple Effect

Shinsung's investment shows how clean energy manufacturing creates benefits that extend far beyond the factory walls. The company is bringing advanced manufacturing jobs to Jeollabuk-do while helping Korea build its own supply chain for renewable energy technology.

The company's other facilities highlight this commitment to sustainability. Their Yongin factory in Gyeonggi-do actually powers itself with renewable energy and battery storage while producing cleanroom equipment. Their Jeungpyeong plant manufactures air conditioning systems.

Just last November, a 47.2 MW floating solar project using Shinsung modules became South Korea's largest floating array at a multi-purpose dam. Now with this new factory online, many more projects like it can follow.

As countries worldwide race to build clean energy infrastructure, facilities like this prove that manufacturing those solutions locally creates a double win for communities and the climate.
