Korean Shooter Breaks World Record at Home Championships

A 49-year-old Paralympic champion just proved that shoulder injuries and pressure can't stop a shooter on a mission.

Jinho Park set a new world record at the World Shooting Para Sport Championships in Changwon, Korea, scoring 354.7 points in the 50m rifle event. He broke the previous record despite nursing a shoulder injury from just one month earlier.

Park wasn't alone in making his home crowd proud. Fellow Korean athlete Yunri Lee claimed her first world title in the women's 50m rifle event, holding off a strong challenge from Swedish silver medalist Anna Benson by just 0.6 points.

The competition saw six nations earn spots for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics. France's Jean-Louis Michaud took silver behind Park, securing his country's quota place with a score of 354.3.

Park credited his medical team for helping him push through the pain. "I had an injury in my left shoulder one month ago, so it was really tough today," he said after his victory.

Italy's teenage sensation Tommaso Starec continued his incredible run by claiming his second gold medal of the championships. The young shooter showed remarkable composure in a tight finish against competitors from Thailand and Spain.

Korea demonstrated its shooting prowess beyond individual medals too. Park and his teammates set a new team qualification world record with their combined performance, adding another celebration for the home fans.
