LA Rescues 300 Dogs and Cats in Massive Operation
Los Angeles animal control saved up to 300 dogs and cats from hoarding conditions in one of the largest animal rescue operations in U.S. history. Over 70 officials worked together to bring the animals to safety and provide emergency care.
Los Angeles County animal control officials just completed one of the biggest animal rescue operations the country has ever seen, saving hundreds of dogs and cats from desperate conditions.
The Department of Animal Care and Control rescued 200 to 300 caged animals from a Lake Hughes property on Friday after executing a search warrant. The dogs, cats, and even a goat and pig had been living in unsanitary hoarding conditions at Rock N Pawz Animal Rescue, run by Christine De'Anda.
More than 70 DACC team members showed up to help. Veterinary staff immediately began checking each animal on site, rushing those needing emergency care to veterinary hospitals while transporting others to animal care centers for evaluation.
The operation started after an anonymous tip, though officials found fewer animals than the original estimate of 700. Still, the number of animals seized appears to exceed what the rescue organization was legally allowed to keep.

The Ripple Effect
This rescue is creating waves of support across Southern California. The Pasadena Humane Society, LA SPCA, and Kern County Animal Control all stepped in to help with the massive effort.
DACC is now opening animal care centers on Sunday to handle the influx. They're also partnering with outside animal groups to transfer adoptable pets, making room for the rescued animals while finding them loving homes.
The case remains under investigation, with the animals currently considered evidence. No charges have been filed yet, though the LA District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation is assisting DACC with the ongoing case.
These hundreds of animals now have a second chance at healthy, happy lives thanks to dedicated officials who refused to look away.
