The Lagos Waste Management Authority launched a special cleanup operation in August 2026 to clear accumulated waste along the Ayobo-Ipaja axis, particularly in Megida and surrounding areas. "We are working here right now to clear the accumulated waste and restore the affected areas to acceptable environmental standards," Gbadegesin said. The agency is taking a two-pronged approach: cleaning up existing waste while stopping the behavior that created the mess in the first place.

Enforcement teams arrested two illegal waste collectors using tricycles to dump community trash on road medians. These unauthorized operators were undermining the formal waste management system that serves the area.
