Lagos Hosts Africa's First Advanced Aesthetics Summit

Nigerian doctors and skincare specialists no longer need to fly overseas to learn advanced cosmetic treatments, thanks to a groundbreaking summit that just wrapped in Lagos.

The Aesthetics Show Lagos 2025 made history as the country's first Advanced Aesthetic Technology Symposium. Leading practitioners, global technology providers, and industry experts gathered to showcase innovations in medical skincare and cosmetic medicine across Africa.

For years, Nigerian aesthetics professionals traveled internationally to access advanced devices and specialized training. Dr. Hamza Arisekola Alao, Chief Executive of Medizone and co-host of the event, said that narrative is changing. "That narrative changes today," he announced, pointing to live demonstrations and hands-on clinical experiences now available locally.

The summit featured international experts including Ravraj Sinha from Aesthetics Africa, Benjamin White from Accaro Medical, and clinical trainer Brooke Taylor. They demonstrated oxygen-based skin therapies that address acne, pigmentation, dehydration, and skin rejuvenation safely across diverse skin types.

Freda Edewor Francis, Executive Director of Medizone, called the gathering a defining milestone. The event was designed not just to showcase technology but to position Nigeria as a leading destination for world-class aesthetic practice.

Speakers emphasized that rapid growth requires strong governance and ethical standards. "Growth without governance is not progress, it is risk," one keynote speaker warned, stressing the importance of certification and continuous education.

Dr. Felix Avajah, a pioneer in Nigeria's aesthetics industry, urged practitioners to prioritize informed decision-making and proper training. "There is passion and opportunity in this industry, but practitioners must continuously evaluate their knowledge and adhere to standards," he said. "Education is not optional, it is essential."

The Ripple Effect

The summit's impact extends far beyond Nigeria's borders. Benjamin White of Accaro Medical noted that the country's tropical climate and diverse skin types create demand for year-round, non-invasive treatments that work in similar markets across Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East.

By lowering entry barriers through accessible technology and local training, the event opens doors for practitioners across emerging markets. Cost and access to training have historically limited growth in African aesthetics, but demonstrations of affordable, effective solutions are changing that calculation.

International stakeholders see Nigeria as a testing ground for innovations that could transform skincare across the continent. Technologies like cold fiber laser resurfacing that succeed in Nigeria's climate can scale to other tropical regions worldwide.
