Lagos Opens Safety Jobs for 5,000 Young Residents

Lagos State is creating thousands of jobs that put young people on the front lines of keeping their communities safe.

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps just opened recruitment for Neighborhood Safety Officers across all 20 local government areas. The positions offer full-time employment to residents between 18 and 30 years old with at least a high school diploma.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the massive hiring push to strengthen community policing across Nigeria's largest city. The new officers will respond to security concerns at the grassroots level and patrol areas around public schools.

Applications are entirely online, making the process accessible to young people across the sprawling metropolis. Candidates need only a clean criminal record and physical fitness to qualify, removing common barriers that keep youth from government jobs.

General Manager Ifalade Oyekan said the recruitment will improve response times to security issues while creating meaningful work for eligible residents. The agency views each new officer as both an employee and a community member with personal stakes in neighborhood safety.
