LaGrange Scholars Win $180K in College Scholarships

Ten graduates from LaGrange, Georgia are heading to college with a huge weight lifted off their shoulders thanks to scholarships that will cover $2,250 per semester for the next four years.

The Hatton Lovejoy Scholarship Committee selected these top performers from the top five percent of their graduating class. Each student earned $18,000 in total support as they pursue degrees at schools like Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, and the University of Georgia.

La Kevin Appleby is headed to Vanderbilt University, while Titus Seymour chose Georgia Institute of Technology. Eight other students, including Nina Frances Baker, Sophie Corley, and Wilberson Velasquez Perez, will attend Auburn University or the University of Georgia.

The scholarship program launched in 1965 when the Fuller E. Callaway Foundation created it to honor Hatton Lovejoy, a respected LaGrange attorney. Over six decades, the program has stayed true to its mission of supporting academic excellence in the community.

This year's awards total $180,000, pushing the program's lifetime giving past the $7 million mark. That's 61 years of opening doors for talented students who might otherwise struggle with college costs.

The scholarship isn't just a one-time check. Students receive ongoing support throughout their undergraduate years, as long as they maintain their academic standards. It's an investment in their entire college journey.
