Las Vegas Kids' Clinic Unveils Ocean-Themed Exam Room

Imagine transforming a doctor's visit into an ocean adventure where kids hunt for hidden treasures instead of counting ceiling tiles.

Cure 4 The Kids Foundation in Las Vegas just unveiled its newest themed exam room, turning routine medical appointments into an "Under the Sea" experience for young cancer and rare disease patients. The immersive room features deep blue walls painted with fish, sharks, coral plants, and a treasure chest, plus 12 hidden symbols children can search for while waiting.

For kids battling cancer or rare diseases, medical visits are frequent. Many come multiple times per week for blood tests, chemotherapy, and follow-up exams.

"Our themed exam rooms have truly made a difference for many of our patients who look forward to seeing a different room each time they visit the clinic," said Annette Logan-Parker, the foundation's founder. She calls it giving patients their "first underwater experience" during an otherwise challenging time.

Health Plan of Nevada, a UnitedHealthcare company, funded the new room. CEO Kim Sonerholm explained their goal: "If this effort eases a parent's mind and allows their children to explore and enjoy time in the doctor's office, we are incredibly proud to be a part of that."

The Ripple Effect spreads beyond one beautiful room. Cure 4 The Kids Foundation serves more than 9,000 patients annually at Nevada's only outpatient childhood cancer treatment center. Since 2007, they've provided over $2.4 million in free medical care to families who couldn't otherwise afford treatment. Their Charity Care Program ensures no child is turned away for financial reasons, offering treatment on a sliding scale so every family can access life-saving care.

This ocean room joins other themed spaces including a fire station room and a Dr. Seuss room, each designed to spark wonder during difficult times.

When hospitals feel less like hospitals, healing feels a little easier for the smallest patients who need it most.
