Liberty Golfer Wins Regional, Heads to NCAA Championship

When Michael Lugiano lined up his 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole, he wasn't just playing for himself. The Liberty University sophomore drained the shot to cap off a dominant three-day performance at the NCAA Corvallis Regional in Oregon.

Lugiano finished with a tournament total of 12-under par, three strokes ahead of Oklahoma's Jase Summy, the nation's 16th-ranked golfer. He birdied three of his final four holes at Trysting Tree Golf Club, showing composure beyond his years when the pressure peaked.

The victory sends Lugiano to the NCAA Men's Golf National Championship at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California, starting May 29. It's the second collegiate win of his young career, and he becomes the first Conference USA golfer to win an individual regional medal in 13 years.
