The Montreal Victoire's Walter Cup trophy went on an unexpected journey last week, disappearing somewhere between shipping facilities before finding its way home to the team.

The Professional Women's Hockey League announced Monday that the missing championship trophy has been located and returned. The cup vanished during transit to Lethbridge, Alberta, where forward Dara Greig was scheduled to spend a day with it last Thursday.

When the shipping container arrived, it turned out to be the wrong one. The actual cup was somewhere else entirely.

The league stayed quiet about exactly where the trophy turned up or how the mix-up happened. "Turns out, even the Walter Cup can have a little offseason adventure," the PWHL said in their announcement, thanking everyone who helped track it down.

This wasn't the original trophy that gets handed to players on the ice during the championship celebration. That historic piece stays permanently at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, safely tucked away from shipping mishaps.

The missing trophy was the team's "keeper" cup, a full replica of the sterling silver Tiffany & Co. original. At 35 pounds and 24 inches tall, it's not exactly something that could slip between couch cushions.

Montreal earned that cup the hard way, defeating Ottawa in May to become the PWHL's first Canadian champion. After making history with that win, the team deserves to celebrate with their hardware without worrying about logistics.
