Louisville Rallies for 8-Year-Old Fighting Rare Disease

When hundreds of people showed up at Dixie Bowl Lanes on Saturday, they came for one special girl: Zoey Alford, an 8-year-old whose infectious joy is rallying an entire community. "I'm so excited people came to my fundraiser," Zoey said with her signature smile.

Two years ago, Zoey's mother Ashley Alford received news that changed everything. After years of searching for answers, doctors diagnosed Zoey with Niemann-Pick disease, a rare disorder sometimes called "children's Alzheimer's."

The disease causes cholesterol to build up in the brain, gradually stealing abilities most of us take for granted. Zoey can still run, play, and do all the things she loves today, but the condition is progressive.
