Louisville to Host 2028 Olympic Gymnastics Trials

The road to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will run straight through Louisville, Kentucky.

USA Gymnastics announced that Louisville will host the 2028 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for gymnastics this June, marking a homecoming moment for American Olympic sports. The trials will take place at the KFC Yum! Center from June 16-19, where the nation's top gymnasts will compete for coveted spots on Team USA.

This marks the first Summer Olympics on U.S. soil since Atlanta 1996, when the "Magnificent Seven" won America's first-ever women's team gymnastics gold medal. Four members of that legendary team attended Wednesday's announcement, passing the torch to the next generation.

"Competing on home soil is an unforgettable experience," said Shannon Miller, one of the Magnificent Seven. "The energy, pride, and support push you to give everything you have."

The event transforms Louisville into "Gymnastics City USA 2028" for 15 days, from June 5-19. Downtown's Fourth Street Live! will become a celebration hub featuring fan activities, live entertainment, and community events that bring the Olympic spirit to Kentucky.

Stephen Nedoroscik, who won two bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, hosted the announcement and hopes to compete in Louisville. "The Olympics are the pinnacle of achievement for any gymnast, but the Olympic Trials may be the most important competition of our lives," he said.

The Ripple Effect

The impact reaches far beyond the arena. More than 200,000 visitors and 6,500 participants are expected to descend on Louisville during the trials. When Minneapolis hosted similar events in 2024, the city saw nearly $75 million in economic impact and reached 1.9 billion people on social media.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear sees the trials as a showcase moment. "Athletes and their families, along with fans from across the country, will see the hospitality and excitement that have made our state a global sports destination," he said.

The trials will crown Olympic teams across three gymnastics disciplines: artistic, trampoline, and rhythmic. USA Gymnastics will announce the 2028 Olympic Teams live in front of the home crowd, creating a moment that will change athletes' lives forever.

Louisville has become a rising star in the sports world, and hosting Olympic trials cements its place on the national stage.
