Madison Honors 146 Students, Awards $400K in Scholarships

Madison students got the celebration they deserved this Sunday when a room full of community leaders stood to honor their hard work, leadership, and service.

The Madison Metropolitan Chapter of The Links, Incorporated recognized 146 students at Vel Phillips Memorial High School during its annual African American Student Recognition Program. The ceremony highlighted young people who excel in their studies while giving back to their neighborhoods.

This wasn't just about handing out certificates. Fifteen high school seniors received scholarships to help launch their college dreams, bringing the program's total scholarship awards to nearly $400,000 since it began.

For over 30 years, The Links has made this ceremony a cornerstone of its mission. The organization seeks out students who demonstrate strong scholarship, good citizenship, and real commitment to making their communities better.

The event brought together a powerful network of support. Members of the Divine Nine, the historically Black Greek-letter organizations, presented scholarships alongside community partners including Mt. Zion Baptist Church and JFMJ Academy, Inc.
