Man Kicks Rock 210 Miles in 200 Days, Internet Loves It

Owen Gail had a problem: his new Portland thrift store, Shirtzenpantz, was tucked away where few people could find it. So he grabbed a chunk of granodiorite, named it "Christosphere," and started kicking it every single day.

Two hundred days later, that rock has traveled 210 miles across nine states and lost nearly two pounds. What started as a marketing stunt became something much bigger.

Gail documented every kick on social media, and people couldn't stop watching. The angular rock gradually smoothed into what looks like a perfect sphere, edges disappearing with each mile. It even took a detour into Detroit Lake on day 96, but Gail had connections at the dam and got it back.

By day 200, Christosphere looked pretty darn round. To settle the debate, Gail gathered 15 "sphere experts" in Oregon for a Socratic seminar to determine if the rock qualified as a true sphere. The verdict is still out, but the internet is hooked.

The weird experiment worked brilliantly for business. Tourists now visit Shirtzenpantz specifically to see Christosphere, and customers get discounts for writing poems about the famous rock. Success from the viral sensation helped Gail and his twin brother open a second location featuring the "world's largest" pair of pants.

Gail even hired someone to kick a second rock, Christosphere's "twin," hoping to recreate the magic.

Why This Inspires

The real moment came in May when Gail's grandmother Juanita held Christosphere and shared what it meant to her. "This rock is in transition, just like many of you might be," she told viewers. "Before you become something different, you have a time when you are confused."

She encouraged people facing uncertainty to embrace being "kicked around" as part of the process. The comment section lit up with tears and gratitude. One viewer wrote, "Never knew when I started following the rock-kicking page that I'd be sobbing at 1am listening to grammy doling out actual wisdom about life."
