Jacob Allmendinger made a choice that would move thousands: he spent five years of savings, roughly $13,300 meant for a house, to give his 80-year-old grandfather one last adventure.

The 21-year-old from England took his grandad Geoff Golliker to the FIFA World Cup, traveling across New York, Atlanta and Mexico City to follow England through the tournament. They watched three matches together, including England's historic victory over Mexico at Estadio Azteca.

"I can always make money back," Allmendinger said before the trip. "But I won't ever get to go to the World Cup with my grandad again."

The attention caught the eye of MetaWin, a U.S.-based online crypto casino. The company made a public promise: if England beat the Democratic Republic of the Congo, they would reimburse Allmendinger's entire trip cost.
