Man Swims 30 Feet to Save Pregnant Woman from Sinking Car

When Logan Hayes spotted a car sliding into a pond off Interstate 95 in Stuart, Florida, he didn't hesitate. He jumped in and swam 30 feet through the water to reach a pregnant woman trapped inside her sinking vehicle.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. on February 6 near the 112-mile marker. Hayes, who works on a private sport fishing boat, arrived just as the car began disappearing beneath the surface.

"I was just kind of dumbfounded, to be honest," Hayes told local news. "I just couldn't believe that happened. Couldn't believe that at that exact moment I happened to be driving by at the exact time."

Hayes swam to the vehicle and found only one door still above water: the back passenger door. He managed to open it and called to the panicking woman inside, directing her to climb from the front seat into the back.

Water flooded the car as it tilted and rolled deeper into the pond. Hayes pulled the woman to safety just before her vehicle completely submerged.

Martin County Fire & Rescue arrived shortly after and provided immediate medical care. First responders transported the woman to a nearby hospital for treatment. The department's dive team later assisted in locating and recovering the submerged vehicle.
