Manila's Free Electric Buses Expand to Business District

Metro Manila just made its daily commute cleaner, easier, and completely free for thousands of workers and shoppers.

Starting this Monday, ten new electric Love Buses began running through the city's Ortigas and Eastwood business districts. The 30-passenger Comet buses operate from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., with possible late-night extensions if demand grows.

The new route connects major destinations like Robinsons Galleria, Estancia Mall, Opus Mall, and Eastwood City. It's the first time the revived Love Bus service has entered a central business district, bringing free electric transport directly to where people work and shop.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority partnered with Global Electric Transport Philippines to make it happen. Four major companies, including Robinsons Land and Megaworld Corporation, stepped up as sponsors to keep the rides free.

MMDA chairman Romando Artes says the electric fleet will reduce roadside emissions and ease congestion along these high-traffic corridors. Instead of belching diesel fumes through crowded streets, these buses run silently and cleanly.

The Love Bus program first returned to Manila's streets in 2025, running between Valenzuela Gateway Complex and Parañaque. This year's expansion shows the model is working well enough to scale up.

GET Philippines president Freddie Tinga describes the project as proof that government and private companies can collaborate to transform public transportation. The partnership aims to make commuting more appealing, safer, and environmentally responsible for everyone.

Every electric bus on Manila's streets means cleaner air for the millions breathing it. Each free ride means more money in someone's pocket at the end of the day. And every successful route proves that sustainable public transport doesn't have to be expensive or inconvenient.

The program's future depends on how many people use it and whether the funding model holds up. But right now, ten bright buses are carrying passengers through the heart of Metro Manila without burning a single drop of fuel.
