Maryland 8-Year-Old Becomes Youngest Grammy Winner in History

Aura V. just became the youngest Grammy winner ever at only 8 years old, and her acceptance speech proves she's wise beyond her years.

The Maryland second-grader and her father Fyütch won Best Children's Music Album this month for their record "Harmony." The win breaks the previous record held by Blue Ivy, who was 9 when she won her Grammy.

"It is an honor to be here today," Aura told the national television audience. "I was not expecting us to go this far."

But music runs deep in this family's veins. Aura's great-grandfather played trumpet in the Army band, and her grandfather contributed saxophone to the winning album. Fyütch himself joined a band as a teenager and later became an arts teacher.

The album was born from frustration. Fyütch couldn't find quality educational music for his students, so he started creating his own. He uploaded videos to YouTube for his classroom, never imagining teachers across the country were desperately searching for exactly what he was making.

When Aura was born in 2017, she started attending her dad's shows. By age 4, she was brave enough to join him on stage, and they recorded their first collaboration, a track called "I Am a Cool."

"Harmony" features songs with titles like "I Am Love," "I Am Light," and "My Daddy." In that last track, Fyütch raps: "When I held you in my arms, my firstborn, my whole world. I don't care how old you get, you still daddy's girl."

The album's title track showcases Aura's powerful voice and vision. She sings: "Peace, positivity, love, and empathy. This is the recipe for life in harmony. Can you imagine what this place would be when our differences work collectively?"

Now she can sing those words as the youngest Grammy winner in history, proof that age is just a number when you've got something important to say.
