Massachusetts Foundation Gives $150K for Hospital Ultrasound

Getting an ultrasound shouldn't require a long drive when you're already worried about your health. Thanks to a major gift from the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts, patients at Heywood Hospital in Gardner will soon get faster diagnoses without leaving their hometown.

The foundation just presented a $150,000 check to purchase state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment. The new technology will help doctors quickly evaluate conditions affecting the heart, abdomen, and blood vessels with greater accuracy than ever before.

For many people in North Central Massachusetts, Heywood Hospital serves as a lifeline. It's often the closest source of comprehensive medical care for 33 communities across the region, where transportation challenges and economic barriers can make it hard to reach distant facilities.

The upgrade tackles a real problem: outdated imaging technology can mean longer wait times and less precise results. Modern ultrasound equipment delivers clearer images faster, helping doctors spot problems earlier and start treatment sooner.
