Masters Champ Patrick Reed Returns to PGA Tour After 4 Years

Patrick Reed announced Wednesday he's returning to the PGA Tour after spending four years with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league. The 2018 Masters champion said the decision came after "careful thought and consideration" about what matters most for his family and future.

"I'm a traditionalist at heart, and I was born to play on the PGA Tour, which is where my story began with my wife, Justine," Reed wrote in a heartfelt post. He'll be eligible to compete on the Tour later this year.

Reed follows Brooks Koepka, who made the same move earlier this month. Koepka, a five-time major winner, agreed to significant conditions for his return, including forfeiting an estimated $50 to $85 million in potential equity earnings over five years and making a $5 million charitable donation.

The PGA Tour created a Returning Member Program specifically for players who want to come back. The program sets clear expectations while welcoming golfers back to the traditional tour format.

Reed expressed deep gratitude for his time with LIV Golf and teammate Dustin Johnson. "Over the last four years, I have learned a lot about myself, about who I am and who I am not, and for that I am forever grateful," he said.

Several top players, including Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cameron Smith, remain committed to LIV Golf. Smith, who won the 2022 Open Championship, said he values the extra time at home the league provides and plans to stay "for years to come."
