Mexico Arrests Cartel Leader After Military Operation

Mexican special forces arrested a high-ranking cartel operative who helped authorities locate Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera before a successful military operation last month. The capture represents a significant breakthrough in dismantling the Jalisco New Generation Cartel's leadership structure.

José "N," known as "Pepe," was detained Sunday during routine patrols in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, part of the Guadalajara metropolitan area. Mexico's Defense Ministry identified him as one of the cartel's main logistics operators.

According to authorities, José "N" unknowingly aided the military by transporting Oseguera's romantic partner to a property in Tapalpa on February 20. Military intelligence tracked the woman's movements, which led them directly to the cartel leader's hideout.

Defense Minister Ricardo Trevilla Trejo explained that surveillance teams monitored the woman's arrival and departure from the property. When she left on February 21, intelligence confirmed Oseguera remained inside, setting the stage for the successful operation the following day.

The arrest netted drugs, weapons, and a vehicle. José "N" is now in custody with the Federal Attorney General's organized crime division.
