Mexico's World Cup Hosting Wins Global Praise

Mexico just proved it can throw one of the world's biggest parties, and everyone's still talking about it.

During the FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey, President Claudia Sheinbaum heard nothing but praise from world leaders about Mexico's role as tournament co-host. President Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Spain's King Felipe VI all spoke glowing words about both the Mexican national team and the country's hospitality.

The enthusiasm wasn't just diplomatic politeness. Mexico's team gave fans real reasons to celebrate, winning all three group stage matches and advancing to the round of 16 before falling to England in a thrilling 3-2 match in Mexico City. Those victories sparked massive celebrations across Mexican cities, creating an electric atmosphere that caught the world's attention.

Thirteen matches took place across Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey between June 11 and July 19. Teams from South Africa, Spain, Uruguay, Japan, England, Morocco, and several other nations played on Mexican soil, while Iran even set up its training base in Tijuana despite playing matches in the United States.

Security concerns had loomed over Mexico's participation as a co-host, especially after violence erupted in Jalisco in late February when cartel leader "El Mencho" Oseguera was killed in a military operation. President Sheinbaum consistently assured visitors they would be safe, and the tournament proved her right.

Not a single match faced security disruptions. FIFA's executive director for safety and security in Mexico, Rodrigo Martínez-Celis, said the country "more than proven" it was ready to host, adding that Mexico's security cabinet did an "excellent job."

The successful tournament did more than showcase Mexico's organizational skills. It shifted global perceptions about what the country can accomplish on the world stage.

World leaders specifically praised the warmth Mexican fans showed to visiting teams and tourists. The Iranian team received an especially warm welcome in Tijuana, while King Felipe of Spain traveled to Guadalajara to watch his country play Uruguay after meeting with President Sheinbaum in Mexico City.

Security Minister Omar García Harfuch noted that Mexico demonstrated its "capacity to organize global events with professionalism, hospitality and close coordination between the three levels of government." The tournament strengthened Mexico's image worldwide and confirmed that Mexican institutions can handle large-scale international events.

Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada held a special ceremony to thank public safety, medical, and construction workers who made the World Cup possible. President Sheinbaum has maintained that Mexico created the best World Cup atmosphere of all three co-hosting nations.

The world watched Mexico shine, and the applause is still echoing.
