Miami DJ Runs Ultramarathon While DJing, Sets World Record

Eddy Palermo turned an idea that sounds absolutely bonkers into a Guinness World Record on August 8th, becoming the first person ever to run an ultramarathon while DJing live.

The Miami-based electronic music artist ran 46.7 kilometers (about 29 miles) while spinning beats continuously for eight hours at The Underline, a 10-mile linear park stretching from Brickell to Dadeland. He completed the remaining distance the next day on a treadmill, hitting the full 50-kilometer ultramarathon mark.

The challenge required Palermo to design and push a custom-built DJ rig on wheels weighing 70 pounds. The mobile setup included professional-grade equipment that pumped music to spectators throughout the park, with the entire event livestreamed to fans worldwide.

Palermo's background made him uniquely qualified for this wild fusion of talents. Between 2020 and 2025, he completed 14 endurance races, including seven Ironman competitions and seven marathons, building the physical and mental toughness needed for ultrarunning.

But this was different. Peak Miami summer heat bore down as he navigated keeping the music flowing while his body screamed for rest.

"Sometimes I was deep in the pain cave and would go 'Oh no...I have to DJ right now' as the song was ending," Palermo said after finishing. It was simultaneously the longest DJ set he'd ever played and the second longest run of his life.

The Ripple Effect

BPMATHON wasn't just about breaking records. The event raised money for Friends of The Underline, a Miami nonprofit dedicated to creating vibrant public spaces and promoting outdoor activity in the community.

By combining his two passions, Palermo created an event that brought people together, supported local green space, and showed what's possible when you refuse to choose between your dreams. The Underline itself became both venue and beneficiary, a linear park that's transforming how Miami residents experience their city.

Born in Miami to Cuban and Italian parents and raised in Weston, Florida, Palermo represents the creative spirit of a city known for pushing boundaries and blending cultures.

His achievement proves that the limits we accept are often just failures of imagination.
