Midland Mom Who Spreads Kindness Gets Surprised Herself

When Jaclyn Ritchie saw her husband's vehicle in the parking lot, she knew something was up. The Midland mom and community champion had just been surprised with her own Random Act of Kindness, surrounded by the people she loves most.

For years, Jaclyn has been the one doing the surprising. As a mom, realtor, marketing director and volunteer with Huronia Players, she somehow finds time to make everyone around her feel valued.

Her community work includes co-organizing "Menstrual Mixers," monthly gatherings where local business owners bring menstrual products to donate. Those supplies go directly to Georgian Bay District Secondary School, La Maison Rosewood Shelter and the Georgian Bay Food Network.

Jaclyn shows up when it counts. She's been dunked for charity, walked through snowstorms for the Coldest Night of the Year, and joined countless local parades and events.

But it's the quiet gestures that define her. Every Random Acts of Kindness Day, she makes it her personal mission to spread positivity throughout Midland.

MidlandToday decided it was time to flip the script. They showed up at her workplace with a surprise recognition, but the real shock came when her husband and sons walked through the door too.

"I was incredibly shocked," Jaclyn said. "I wondered why my husband's vehicle was parked in the parking lot. It was definitely a big surprise."

What makes Jaclyn's story special isn't just what she does, it's why she does it. "I find it so rewarding. I think a small act of kindness can go a long way," she explained.

She credits the people around her. "I've been surrounded by a lot of incredible people over the years who have led by example and I think I just strive to be the same way."

The surprise was made possible by local sponsors including Midland Olive Oil, MegaMindful Living, Fresh by Leanne and Starbucks Midland. Their support shows how communities rally around people who give so much.
