Minnesota Jerky Contest Raises Funds for Cancer Survivors

Dennis Thielke knows firsthand how much support matters during the cancer journey, so he's making sure other survivors feel the love through jerky.

The owner of Spice and Tea Exchange hosted his third annual Jerky Off fundraiser Saturday at the All-American Club in West Duluth, Minnesota. Fifteen vendors competed with their unique jerky flavors while community members sampled the creations and rallied around a great cause.

Thielke, a two-time cancer survivor himself, donates all proceeds from the event each year to either a cancer survivor or someone currently fighting the disease. This year's gathering drew crowds eager to taste everything from traditional beef jerky to creative flavor combinations.

The competition wrapped up with an awards ceremony at the Caddy Shack, where one lucky vendor took home the title of best jerky. But the real winners were the cancer patients and survivors who will benefit from the funds raised.
