Minnesota Museum Hosts Free Fossil Discovery Day for Kids

Families in Chisholm, Minnesota can dig into prehistoric fun this Thursday without spending a dime.

The Minnesota Discovery Center is hosting Fossils X3 Family Discovery Day from 4 to 7 p.m. on July 16. The free event invites visitors of all ages to explore the Cretaceous Era when dinosaurs stomped across land that would eventually become Minnesota's Iron Range.

Kids and adults can examine real fossils up close and experience virtual reality simulations that bring ancient creatures to life. The center designed sensory activities specifically for young learners, along with interactive educational stations throughout the venue.

The timing makes this event extra special. It falls on the final day of the Discovery Center's Early Childhood Education Dino Discovery Summer Day Camp, where young campers will showcase what they've learned throughout the week about paleontology.

The event takes place in the newly renovated Hall of Geology, which reopened this spring after a complete overhaul. The permanent exhibit walks visitors through three billion years of natural history from the Iron Range region, covering both geology and paleontology.
