Minnesota Tutoring Program Seeks Volunteers for 2026 School Year

Volunteers in Education is gearing up for another school year of helping students across northeastern Minnesota reach their full potential, completely free of charge.

The nonprofit, known as VinE, has connected thousands of students with volunteer tutors since Arthur Dale founded it in 2008. Now the organization is calling on community members to sign up as tutors for the 2026-2027 school year across St. Louis County, Mt. Iron-Buhl, and Rock Ridge school districts.

The program works by matching volunteers with students from pre-K through 12th grade based on the tutor's knowledge, experience, and interests. Tutors work one-on-one or with small groups, helping kids tackle homework, prepare for tests, or simply practice reading skills.

What makes VinE special is its accessibility. Any community member can volunteer, regardless of teaching background. The organization provides comprehensive training to ensure volunteers feel confident supporting student learning.

The only requirement is passing a background check, which follows standard school policies. From there, volunteers decide how much time they can give and which subjects they're most comfortable teaching.
