Mondo Duplantis Wins Ultimate Championship in Budapest

Mondo Duplantis cleared 6.20m on Friday night in Budapest, securing his first Ultimate Championship title while vaulting to the sounds of his own anthem called "Gold."

The Swedish superstar achieved a perfect scorecard at the Gyula Zsivotzky National Athletics Centre, clearing every height on his first attempt up to his winning mark. With the Ultimate crown now in hand, he adds to an already stunning collection: two Olympic titles, three world gold medals, and four world indoor wins.

Greece's Emmanouil Karalis pushed hard to challenge the king of pole vault, clearing 6.15m and staying in contention deep into the competition. But Duplantis responded by clearing 6.20m, and Karalis couldn't match the height despite his valiant effort.

The competition made history as just the second meet ever where five athletes cleared 5.95m or higher, and the first outdoors. Karalis finished second while Norway's Sondre Guttormsen took third on countback at 5.95m.

Competing for the first time since withdrawing from the Diamond League Final due to leg tightness, Duplantis showed no signs of rust. He opened at 5.60m and sailed through each height with confidence and precision.

With the title secured, Duplantis skipped straight to attempting 6.32m, which would have been his 16th world record. Before his second attempt, Ukrainian pole vault legend Sergey Bubka gave him good luck wishes during a crowd interview, creating a special moment between two generations of greatness.
