Two Bear Air Rescue, based in Kalispell, Montana, has been busy this summer saving lives across four states. The nonprofit helicopter rescue team helps local authorities reach people in remote areas where ground crews can't get there fast enough.

Chief pilot James Heckman says July typically brings 20 to 30 rescue calls. So far this month, they've responded to nine incidents. The team serves Montana, Idaho, and parts of Oregon and Washington, never charging a penny for their services.

The scorching summer heat creates challenges beyond dehydration and heat exhaustion. Hot air spreads air molecules further apart, giving helicopter blades less air to push against. This makes flying more difficult and dangerous, especially at high altitudes.

That's why Two Bear Air upgraded to a new Airbus H-145 D3 helicopter this season. The aircraft performs better in hot conditions and high elevations than their old Bell helicopter, giving crews a safer edge when every second counts.
