Montana High School Honors 121 Years of Football Champions

A Montana high school is rolling out the red carpet for more than a century of champions, proving that some victories never fade.

Great Falls High School is hosting "Night of Champions 2.0" on August 27-28, inviting back every player and coach from the Bison's 16 state championship teams. The celebration kicks off with a meet-and-greet at a local downtown bar, followed by a luncheon in the school's historic Old Gym before Friday night's season opener against Kalispell Flathead.

The event connects generations of athletes, from the back-to-back champions of 1905-06 to the most recent title winners from 1988. That final championship game delivered a Hollywood ending: kicker Tim Klinger nailed a 24-yard field goal with just 11 seconds remaining to beat Billings West 9-6.

Great Falls High first tried this reunion concept in 2024, and the response convinced organizers to make it a tradition. Players and coaches will be recognized on the field before kickoff at Memorial Stadium, which will debut its brand new scoreboard that night.

This celebration does more than honor old victories. It shows current players they're part of something bigger than one season or one team.

When teenagers in 2026 shake hands with champions from the 1940s or 1970s, they learn that their community has been building excellence for generations. The faces change, but the pride remains constant.
