Moraine Firefighters Save Four Dogs From Burning Home

A homeowner on Weisen Lane in Moraine, Ohio returned to find her worst nightmare: smoke billowing from her house with her four dogs trapped inside.

Moraine Fire Department crews arrived to find flames spreading through the kitchen and smoke filling the home. While no people were inside, firefighters knew lives were still at stake.

"There were four dogs inside for the fire department to rescue," said Sergeant Derek Lasher with the Moraine Police Department. The team didn't hesitate, rushing into the smoke-filled home to bring the pups to safety.

Three dogs were carefully carried out by firefighters, while a fourth bolted through the door as soon as rescuers opened it. All four made it out alive, though they were clearly shaken by the ordeal.

"They're all pretty dazed and confused right now," Lasher said at the scene. "They were inside the home while it was filling with smoke, but they are all alive right now."

At least one dog needed immediate medical attention and was placed on a respirator to help clear smoke from its lungs. First responders treated the animals with the same urgency and care they would show any fire victim.

Fire Marshal Doug Hatcher reported the fire started small in the kitchen, though the exact cause remains under investigation. Thanks to the quick response, damage was contained and all four dogs survived.
