Morocco Breaks Ground on Africa's Largest Tire Factory

A groundbreaking ceremony in Morocco's Driouch province just kicked off construction of what will become Africa's largest car tire manufacturing facility, bringing thousands of jobs and cutting-edge technology to the region.

Chinese manufacturing giant Shandong Yongsheng Rubber is investing $670 million to build the massive 128-acre factory in the Batouya Industrial Acceleration Zone. When complete, the plant will pump out 18 million tires every year, all meeting international quality standards.

The project promises 1,737 direct jobs for local workers, plus hundreds more indirect positions during construction and daily operations. Morocco's Minister of Investment Karim Zidane joined regional leaders at the launch, celebrating what he called a transformation "from decision to action."

Location matters enormously here. The factory sits near the Nador West Med port, giving it a straight shot to both European and African markets without the headaches of landlocked manufacturing.
