Morocco Police Deploy Mobile Bakeries Amid Floods

When rising floodwaters threatened to leave thousands without bread in Ksar El Kebir, Morocco's national police rolled out two mobile bakery units that now feed the city.

The General Directorate of National Security deployed the unusual emergency resource after the Loukkos River flooded several neighborhoods. Working alongside local authorities, these rolling bakeries produce 6,000 loaves of bread each day for residents unable to access regular food supplies.

Divisional Commissioner Mohamed Ait Soudane told local media the units can scale up production to 10,000 loaves daily if needed. The flexible approach ensures no one goes hungry while evacuation efforts continue.

Authorities are relocating residents from at-risk areas to safer cities in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region as more heavy rainfall approaches. The move comes as weather forecasts predict 100 to 150 millimeters of rain in nearby provinces, with 60 to 100 millimeters expected in Larache province where Ksar El Kebir is located.

Officials emphasized the evacuations are controlled and gradual, with continuous monitoring of water levels. The careful planning aims to protect citizens while keeping essential services like bread production running throughout the emergency.
