Diverse group of young leaders from Africa and Mediterranean collaborating at summit in Rabat Morocco

Morocco Summit Unites 40 Nations' Youth for Peaceful Future

✨ Faith Restored

Young leaders from 40 countries across Africa and the Mediterranean gathered in Rabat to design a roadmap for building more inclusive societies. The summit placed students at the center of solving global challenges through dialogue and civic responsibility.

Students from 40 nations met in Morocco this week to tackle one of humanity's biggest questions: how do we live together peacefully in a world of constant change?

The African and Euro-Mediterranean Youth Summit brought together young leaders at Morocco's Royal Academy to discuss civic responsibility, pluralism, and coexistence. What makes this gathering special is that it was organized by young people, for young people.

Miguel Angel Moratinos, High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, told attendees that their generation will soon lead the world through unprecedented challenges. "The students are the ones who are going to lead the world in a very close future," he said, emphasizing the importance of preparing youth to work together across borders.

Morocco itself served as a living example of what's possible. Without oil or gas reserves, the country has become a leader in automotive manufacturing, renewable energy, and aeronautics through strategic development and collaboration.

But Mostapha Bousmina, President of Euromed University of Fez, stressed that economic progress alone isn't enough. "Today, the youth propose a new plan," he said, describing a vision where young people build a common future by respecting others, shared spaces, and collective values.

The Ripple Effect

What started as a student summit is creating waves far beyond the conference room. The recommendations developed during this gathering will be delivered directly to policymakers and institutional leaders, giving young voices real influence in shaping public policy.

The United Nations Chair for the Alliance of Civilizations, based at Euromed University, is the only one of its kind worldwide. It organizes international events, produces strategic reports, and contributes to academic thinking on peaceful coexistence.

Omar Fassi Fihri, speaking at the opening session, reframed civism as more than following rules. "To be civic means respecting the law, but also respecting others," he explained, adding that individual freedom only has meaning when it respects the freedom of others.

The summit addressed pressing modern challenges too, including how science and technology can support civic values rather than undermine them. "Science and technology are tools. They are neither good nor bad in themselves. Everything depends on how we use them," Fassi Fihri noted.

As the summit concludes, participants will issue a declaration outlining principles of civism, pluralism, and responsible citizenship. It's a roadmap designed by the generation that will use it, proving that young people aren't just inheriting the world's problems but actively solving them.
