Morocco's High-Speed Rail to Marrakech Hits 30% Complete

Morocco is building one of Africa's most ambitious transportation projects, and it's already nearly a third of the way done.

The country's new high-speed rail line connecting Rabat to Marrakech has crossed 30% completion, Transport Minister Abdessamad Kayouh announced to parliament this week. The massive 430-kilometer project stays firmly on track for its September 2029 delivery date.

When finished, passengers will zip between the two cities in a fraction of the current travel time. The new route will shave more than two hours off existing rail journeys, transforming how Moroccans travel between major cities.

The engineering behind this project tells its own impressive story. About 70% of the entire route consists of bridges and tunnels, a necessity created by the dramatic High Atlas mountain range the train must cross.

This isn't just about connecting two cities. The rail line represents Morocco's commitment to modernizing its entire national transportation network with high-speed options that rival Europe's best systems.
