Mother and Son Reunite After 20 Years Apart

When Nerry Aspuria walked into her surprise 60th birthday party in Alexandria, Louisiana, she had no idea her long-lost son was waiting inside.

Twenty years ago, Nerry made a heart-wrenching decision. Her son Ian would move to the United States to live with his father while she stayed behind in the Philippines to help raise her other children.

The distance didn't stop her from hoping. Nerry prayed every single day that she would see her son again.

"As I grew older, I realized that there was a missing piece of our family," said Annette Mendoza, Nerry's daughter. "And that was having my mother and my brother reunite again."

A few years ago, Nerry was finally able to migrate to the United States. That's when Annette saw her chance to bring the family back together.

She worked with Ian to plan the ultimate surprise. While Nerry thought she was just attending a birthday party, Ian quietly flew in from Florida.

The moment they saw each other was everything the family had hoped for. Ian was nervous but overwhelmed with gratitude for his sister's efforts to make the reunion happen.

"Very blessed. Very thankful to have a sister like her to make everything happen," Ian said. "It was just a lot of emotions. Very grateful."
